Today on the blog, I'm featuring the book LET'S DANCE by Valerie Bolling, illustrated by Maine Diaz.
It's a wonderful picture book that features different countries and various types of dance:
Spain: Flamenco
India: Kathak
Ireland: Irish Stepdancing
China: Chinese long-sleeve dance
West Africa: Kuku Dance
Break Dancing
Country Western: Line dancing
Cuba: Cha Cha
Disco
Ballet
A few things I love about this book:
-It's inclusive of all cultures and types of dance.
-It's got short text, which keeps kids engaged.
-The text rhymes, which teaches word families.
-The illustrations are adorable!
-It has back matter explaining each of the featured dances.
Who would be a great recipient for this book?
Children aged 3-7
Just for fun, here's a picture of me when I was a young dancer!
Ideas for sharing this book:
-If you're a teacher, you could read this to your students to introduce different cultures & ways of expressing yourself.
-If you're a P.E. teacher, you could read this book during a dance unit.
-If you're a parent, aunt, uncle, or grandparent, you could read this to little ones right before nap time/bed time and get those wiggles out.
-If you're celebrating Christmas or any of the upcoming holidays, you could wrap this book up and give it as a gift.
-There are lots of possibilities on how to share this book!
